Formula 2 | Objective achieved for Charles Leclerc: "The title is truly a great satisfaction"

Charles Leclerc mathematically won the title of 2 FIA Formula 2017 champion by winning the first of the two races scheduled on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit after starting from pole position. A success that suffered until the last meters before the long-awaited checkered flag, due to the entry of the safety car onto the track which regrouped the group a few laps from the end. The sixth victory of the season allowed Leclerc to reach 247 points, becoming 2017 Champion with three races to go.

“Containing the title with a victory is truly a great satisfaction – commented Charles – together with the Prema team we played a season that saw us as protagonists on all the tracks where we stopped. It was a challenging championship both on and off the track, my father's passing was a difficult moment and it is to him that I want to dedicate this achievement. I would like to thank the team, my teammate, and all those who contributed to achieving this goal, starting with the Ferrari Driver Academy working group, which guaranteed me great support."

Together with Leclerc, Antonio Fuoco also climbed onto the podium in Jerez, completing a comeback race with third final position after starting from the eighth row of the grid. The Jerez weekend will end today with the second race scheduled for the Spanish weekend, a race which will see Fuoco and Leclerc starting from sixth and eighth position on the starting grid respectively.
