Formula 1 | Williams, result below expectations in Zandvoort

Interviewed by the official Williams website, Dave Robson took stock of the last world weekend on the Zandvoort track in the Netherlands, specifying how George Russell and Nicholas Latifi failed to make the most of the potential of the FW43B.

Due to numerous blue flags, combined with some technical problems, the drivers of the English team ended the weekend in the Netherlands without any points under their belt, effectively losing a great opportunity. The objective now will be to redeem himself in a few days in Monza, theater of the next Italian Grand Prix.

“Although the result in Zandvoort was frustrating and below expectations, the pace shown by the car over the weekend was good,” said Dave Robson. “We approached this new event on the calendar efficiently. George had a good start, but was unable to capitalize due to the Alpines in front of him. He was able to maintain the position throughout the first stint of the race. Unfortunately, McLaren managed to implement a good race strategy and this allowed Lando Norris to overtake us. At that point we were destined to finish in 12th position. Subsequently, a five-second penalty for too high speed in the pit lane and a gearbox problem led us to finish 18th."

On Latifi's race he added: “He started the race from the pit lane due to the bad impact on Saturday. His race pace was strong, but unfortunately he wasn't able to make the overtaking moves he needed to climb the rankings. Towards the end of the race he had to lift his foot due to the blue flags and this led to him losing temperature on the tyres. The last laps were really difficult."

Finally, conclusion on Monza: “It marks the end of this hat-trick of racing and the circuit will present a totally different challenge, both in terms of layout and format, given that there will be Sprint Qualifying. We want to get back on track to test the FW43B on this type of track with low downforce."
