Formula 1 | Webber on Button's return to McLaren: "He doesn't take this commitment too seriously either"

"Jenson's commitment shouldn't be taken too seriously," said the former Red Bull driver

Button, we remember, will take the place of Fernando Alonso, given that the latter will fly to the United States to take on the historic Indianapolis 500
Formula 1 | Webber on Button's return to McLaren: "He doesn't take this commitment too seriously either"

In a recent interview with Autosport, Mark Webber commented on Jenson Button's return to the Formula One circus, underlining how the English driver himself does not take his commitment to Monte Carlo too seriously.

The current conditions of McLaren-Honda do not allow Button to compete for the "noble" positions in the standings and for this reason he will try to do his best as always for himself and the team, but we shouldn't expect a "hero" version of Jenson.

The Englishman will in fact have to fight with the enormous reliability problems of the Honda engine, not to mention the poor performance on the power front, and a simple points finish would already be something extraordinary for the World Champion born in Frome.

“Jenson will get behind the wheel of the MCL32 and will already have a small problem during FP1, perhaps with the fuel pressure”, declared the Australian to the microphones of the English newspaper. “He will qualify seventeenth and after three laps he will be forced to retire due to a broken power unit. What is the meaning of this speech of mine? I just want to say that Jenson's commitment shouldn't be taken too seriously because he isn't taking this thing with dedication either."

Webber subsequently spoke about the problems of the McLaren Honda duo, underlining how the Englishman's performance will depend a lot on the problems he will encounter during the weekend: “McLaren's problems are there for all to see and they will simply have to do their best. He is aware that after three laps he could already be on the sofa watching the race. In different conditions it might have been different, but that's all very lightly."

“There is little interest around this return and therefore already a points finish would be pure gold,” concluded the former Red Bull driver.
