Formula 1 | The new McLaren MCL33 revealed

Renovated livery with a historical theme for the English team

Formula 1 | The new McLaren MCL33 revealed

Waiting to discover it today in Navarra for a filming day session, the McLaren has revealed the design of the new MCL33, a single-seater that will inaugurate the new partnership with Renault. As announced in recent weeks by Tim Goss, the new car presents several extremely interesting evolutions, especially at the front, but in Woking they did not choose to revolutionize a project which, at least aerodynamically speaking, seemed to give the right guarantees already in 2017. The entire rear package is therefore confirmed in full, with the wing bulkheads having been carried over from the MCL32. The same goes for the bottom and diffuser. As regards the bellies, however, since the Renault power unit is very compact, the engineering team managed to close the "coca-cola", reducing the width of the sides.

The front suspension and nose configuration are extremely interesting, given that, compared to last season, McLaren has chosen to return to a solution similar to the 2015 car. There is therefore room for a small bulb on the muzzle to increase the flow rate towards the bottom and the rear. The real revolution in this car, however, is obviously the livery: McLaren has finally chosen to bring back its tradition, coloring the MCL33 yellow and blue. The car follows the scheme used by the Andretti team in Indianapolis, with the entire body painted light yellow (papaya.ed) and the wings in blue.

The objective for this 2018 will be to stay in the wake of the top teams, returning permanently to the top five. The McLaren MCL33, we remember, will take to the track today with Stoffel Vandoorne and Fernando Alonso. Subsequently the team will leave for Barcelona where the eight days of pre-season work will be held.
