Ferrari, Hass and Toro Rosso: the revolution is served

Formula 1 – 2016 begins with evolutions and revolutions – Part two

The conservatives were analyzed in yesterday's article, Today we move on to the revolutionaries of 2016.

After four years characterized by the same chassis, which even survived the advent of the hybrid, the Ferrari gave carte blanche to the Allison-Resta-Binotto trio to create one SF16-H which is a very clear break with the past of the last five years. Liters of ink have been poured on the livery before and with in-depth technical analyzes of the new arrival from Maranello: what is certain is that so many courageous innovations all together have not been seen coming out of GeS for some time: nose and front suspension, architecture of the cooling and of the power unit, with consequent and evident slimming of the rear, are just some of the innovations of the 2016 Red which now has all it takes to bring the definitive attack on the dominant Mercedes of the last two years.
The other two realities adhering to this season's progressive current also have deep roots in Emilia: Toro Rosso and Haas.
In Faenza we worked at a tight pace, reorganizing the shifts in the new structure dedicated to the team, reaching the point of covering the entire 24 hour period for total process optimization: the result was a very refined STR11, with solutions worthy of that James Key who many see as Newey's successor in the godmother RedBull. The new creature is a concentration of elegant and refined solutions, aimed at making Toro Rosso a real loose cannon during the first phases of the season, with the 2015 Ferrari PU which will certainly guarantee good performance and excellent reliability.
We close this long discussion with the new team Haas F1: despite having the team's official headquarters in the USA, in Kannapolis in North Carolina and the operational headquarters in the former Banbury factories in England, the heart of the new "American dream" beats between Varano de' Melegari and Maranello, passing through the Dallara workshops for the chassis to Ferrari's futuristic wind tunnel for the aerodynamics, based on the SF15-T dummy from which the VF-16 is clearly inspired.
Some may therefore wonder what is revolutionary about this single-seater.
The answer is simple: everything.
Gene Hass, in facing this new adventure in Formula 1, has adopted a completely new approach compared to all its recent predecessors: looking back, Marussia, Caterham, HRT, just to mention the last few, created their single-seaters starting from a blank sheet of paper, throwing themselves into the fray with what turned out to be real mobile chicanes, with only Bianchi's high note, who with Marussia scored the first, and unfortunately only, points of his career with a ninth place in Monte Carlo. On the contrary, Haas wanted strong support from a manufacturer and the best offer came from Ferrari: Power Unit, gearbox and rear suspension, all in the 2016 version obviously, come from Maranello, just as all the aerodynamic choices are the result of very close collaboration between the American technicians and those of the Maranello wind tunnel, in which the first American single-seater of recent times took shape.
Only the track will now be able to say whether Haas's intuition will pay off or not, but the American technicians have certainly laid excellent foundations - read Ferrari foundations - to stand as a serious candidate for the top-10 in this debut season.
