Formula 1 | Sainz ends the first free practice sessions in Monaco in command

Formula 1 GP Monaco Ferrari – Carlos Sainz set the fastest time in the first free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix, while Charles Leclerc set the fifth fastest time.

50 rpm. Charles and Carlos took to the track on Medium tires - the compound used throughout the session - starting to gain confidence with the track. The Monegasque clocked 1'15”931, while Carlos clocked 1'16”240, then improved to 1'15”198. Charles, after stopping for an adjustment, improved to 1'15”037 and then to 1'14”562. Shortly after, Carlos also managed to go under the 1'15" barrier, hitting 1'14"401 and then 1'14"245. Leclerc and Sainz therefore returned to the pits for further adjustments, while the session was suspended with a red flag to clean the track after Nico Hülkenberg's collision with the barriers at the chicane after the tunnel. At the restart Carlos and Charles went out with two sets of new tires, improving 1'13”690 and 1'14”093. Sainz then dropped to 1'13”372, while Leclerc was unable to improve due to the red flag caused by Alexander Albon in turn 1. Overall Sainz completed 26 laps, Leclerc 24.
