Formula 1 | Russell analyzes the FP in Spain: "Good on the pace, less on the flying lap"

Interviewed by the official Williams website, George Russell and Nicholas Latifi analyzed the Friday free practice valid for the Spanish Grand Prix, the fourth round of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship, underlining how the car performed well in race configuration, but showed difficulties on the flying lap. A situation that the team will be called upon to improve in tomorrow morning's FP3.

“It's always difficult to miss FP1 and accumulate half the kilometers you would like,” said George Russell. “In any case, it was fantastic to be back in a single-seater so quickly after the weekend in Portugal. As for the circuit, the new turn 10 is very beautiful and compared to the previous one it is more fun to drive. We still haven't managed to find the right feeling with empty tanks, but our pace seems quite good in race configuration. The degradation in Barcelona is always quite high and historically we have always struggled here, which is why it will be quite an interesting Sunday."

Here are Nicholas Latifi's assessments: “It was a difficult Friday, also because the track conditions in FP1 were not ideal. We made some improvements between sessions, but I feel we still have room to improve the set-up. We need to focus more on the pace at full load, as it was a lot in Portugal. We're not where we want to be, but we'll try to improve."
