Formula 1 | Renault, Sainz: “Promising morning, frustrating afternoon”

Hulkenberg: "We haven't completed our program, but we know where to intervene to make the car more to my liking"

Formula 1 | Renault, Sainz: “Promising morning, frustrating afternoon”

Troubled Friday for the Renault in Canada. The gearbox problem detected on the vehicle of Nico Hulkenberg in FP1 and the accident of Carlos Sainz in the afternoon (impact against the barriers in turn 7 and session compromised), complicated, quite a bit, the plans of the French team, which from Saturday will be forced to chase. “Hulk” didn't even do a flying lap in the morning and had to fit a new gearbox in the second free practice. These are the impressions of the two pilots at the end of the day in Montreal.

NICO HULKENBERG
FP1: 20th, No Time – 3 laps
FP2: 14th, 1:13.967 (+1.769) – 37 laps
“It was a pretty quiet morning for me once I found my way back to the garage. The afternoon was much more productive. We weren't able to run all of our usual program due to the lost time, but we still made some progress and we know what to do to make the car more to my liking for tomorrow.".

Carlos Sainz
FP1: 8th, 1:14.116 (+0.814) – 24 laps
FP2: 17th, 1:14.433 (+2.235) – 9 laps
“The morning was promising, the afternoon frustrating. We made good progress in FP1 and I was happy with the car. In the afternoon, during my second run with the Supersofts, I lost the rear and couldn't brake enough before hitting the wall. Luckily it seems there wasn't too much damage, although it's a shame because we could have gleaned valuable information from this session. I thank my team for the extra work required today. Tomorrow I think we can still have a good day: I'm already working on it.".
