Formula 1 | Renault, Sainz: “Happy with the car, especially on the flying lap”

Encouraging day for Renault: in Singapore the French team seems to have regained the luster of its best days and, from a race perspective, is aiming for a placing behind the top teams. Nico Hulkenberg, who assembled new bargeboards and sidepods today, and Carlos Sainz they commented this way on Friday's free practice at Marina Bay.

NICO HULKENBERG
FP1: 5th, 1:41,105 (+1.394) – 26 laps
FP2: 10th, 1:40,668 (+1.969) – 35 laps
“It's always nice to drive on this track. We started the day well, but then in the second session I don't think we were able to make the progress I was hoping for. In particular, I think we will need to check the rear control a little more closely, but that means we have a specific area to focus on ahead of FP3 and qualifying tomorrow. Overall it was a positive day, but we still want more”.

Carlos Sainz
FP1: 7th, 1:41.329 (+1.618) – 23 laps
FP2: 6th, 1:40.274 (+1.575) – 36 laps
“Overall it was a pretty straightforward Friday for us, which is always good in Singapore. We had no problems and completed our program. I am happy, in particular with the performance of the car in the flying lap. There are some areas to work on, particularly the long runs ahead of the race. There are some things to learn regarding tire degradation, but overall it was a good day for us.”.
