Formula 1 | Renault, Ghosn reveals the team's policy: "We aim to win by 2020 and we are not interested in crazy investments"

Quoted by the newspaper La Presse, Carlos Ghosn spoke about the future projects of the Renault team, underlining how the team's objective is to achieve success by the 2020 season, while maintaining responsible economic conditions. The French Scuderia, in fact, does not want to tear its hair out when it comes to the budget, therefore preferring to invest in young profiles (the Newey hypothesis has therefore been discarded) or in possible bets from the drivers' point of view. The President, precisely in this sense, did not rule out sensational choices regarding the aftermath of Sainz or Hulkenberg, revealing how the Transalpine team is ready to bet on "economically strong" talents.

Here are the words of Carlos Ghosn: “We are preparing to return to the top by 2020. Our goal is to win with responsible economic conditions. Obviously, if there wasn't a budget, we could hire the best drivers in the world, but we won't be the richest team and we have repeatedly demonstrated, especially in the past, that we can win even without the help of experienced and successful drivers. We know how to value bets."

As for Sainz, precisely in this sense, Ghosn did not rule out an economically advantageous profile: “Renault may also be looking for a driver to attract attention in our core markets. So a French or Russian driver would be fine, but a Chinese driver would be amazing because we would have the attention of 1,3 billion consumers. You always have to consider, however, that this profile must lead you to victory, so it's not an easy equation to solve."
