Formula 1 | Red Bull, Gasly: “I was satisfied with my lap”

Disastrous qualifying for Gasly, who on his debut with Red Bull will start in seventeenth position. The Frenchman was already excluded in Q1, not taking advantage of the obvious improvement in the track which caused him to lose many positions. The 2016 GP2 champion is called upon to make a comeback and tries not to cause too much drama.

“I encountered some traffic in Turn 1, but other than that I was satisfied with my lap in Q1 – Gasly admitted. We only made one attempt while the others made two, and this cost us dearly. I think we were too optimistic as we didn't expect such an evolution of the track and that the others were so close. Obviously we are not where we would like but we are going in the right direction: there weren't many overtakings in the race last year, so starting so far back it will be difficult, but we will try to score points. It was a complicated day, but we have to stay positive: tomorrow I will gain experience in the car during the race and I will try to recover as many positions as possible."
