Formula 1 | Pirelli, Isola: “The asphalt offers good grip”

With the time of 1m18.455s recorded in FP2, Daniel Ricciardo not only improves on Red Bull's last year's pole position by more than a second and a half, but is approaching the absolute Hungaroring record dating back to 2004. Today the Australian driver is was fastest in both free practice sessions with the Red supersoft tires which are around 0,8 seconds faster than the P Zero Yellow soft tyres. The other compound nominated for this race is the medium, used mainly in the installation laps. All three compounds were used today, with the teams focusing work on aerodynamic balance with different fuel loads. After a start with cloudy skies, the weather improved and the asphalt temperature exceeded 45°. Despite this factor, together with the continuous succession of corners of the Hungaroring, no tire showed signs of blistering.

MARIO ISOLA – CAR RACING MANAGER
“The asphalt renewed before the race in 2016 is proving today to be smoother and offer good grip. The temperature of the dark Hungarian asphalt, already high in FP1, increased by around eight degrees in FP2. The supersoft compound was the fastest in both sessions. The lap gap between soft and supersoft, which will be the main compounds for the race, is quite clear. The only unknown is the degradation, given that today the long run simulations were interrupted due to the two red flags in FP2. The fastest cars, in particular, show that they have a very similar pace."
