Formula 1 | Pirelli, Isola: “The weather could affect performance”
"Bottas lowered his 2018 pole by more than half a second"
Mario Isola, Head of F1 E Car Racing, took stock of the tires at the end of qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, which saw Valtteri Bottas take his third consecutive pole position.
“It was a particularly fast qualifying, with Valtteri Bottas' pole position taking over half a second off the 2018 pole, thus setting a new circuit record. We thought some drivers would try to get through Q2 on medium, but that didn't happen. They are probably focusing on a two-stop strategy or a single, soft-hard pit stop. It will be very interesting to see what they choose, or whether they will be influenced by alternative tactics for those who start outside the top 10. Today the weather conditions were different to yesterday, and this factor could influence the performance of the tires in the race."
