Formula 1 | Mercedes, Wolff raises the alarm: "The new engine is creating some small problems for us"

During an event sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, partner of the Mercedes AMG team, Toto Wolff revealed some interesting details regarding the future W10, the car with which Lewis Hamilton will hunt for his sixth world title, underlining how the technicians in Brixworth would have encountered some small problem in the development of the power unit that will take to the track in the next championship.

According to what the Austrian declared, in fact, the German manufacturer would have encountered a setback with regards to the realization of the power unit concept studied for 2019, an aspect that caused no worries in Brackley (Ferrari, we remember, has built and turned on the power unit several weeks ago.ed.).

Despite this small wake-up call, however, Wolff said he was very optimistic about the world champion Scuderia's chances, highlighting how the entire team has set itself the goal of leaving for Australia in top form.

Here are the words of Toto Wolff: “We had a good few weeks in the wind tunnel, but unfortunately we ran into a small setback with the engine. We believed that the new concept would give us something more. The guys in the factory are ambitious anyway and so I remain quite optimistic about it. We will know our level when the first qualifying of the season starts in Melbourne, since everyone will only discover their cards at that moment."

On the development for next season he added: “As we speak, there is a huge race outside to develop cars. We are setting ourselves really ambitious goals if I have to be honest. Six weeks ago we restarted the project, as we received rumors that it affected some teams. The level will be high and therefore we felt the need to re-intervene."
