Formula 1 | Mercedes, Wolff against the tide: "Leclerc was the fastest in Baku"

Speaking to the press at the end of the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the fourth round of this 2019 Formula 1 world championship, Toto Wolff commented on Charles Leclerc's performances on the city track of Baku, underlining how the Monegasque had the fastest pace of all the drivers on the grid, including the Mercedes standard bearers.

Precisely in this sense, Wolff believes that the Ferrari driver, without that heavy blunder in Q2, could have easily played for the victory, also given the extremely competitive pace on the medium tyres.

A curious point of view given that the Mercedes, who started from the front row, never appeared to be in difficulty in the direct comparison with Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

“I'm very happy for the race, but the fastest driver on the track at the weekend was Leclerc, exactly like in Bahrain,” Toto Wolff declared to the international press. “This race certainly won't lead him to give up and it is precisely for this reason that we must continue to push hard, so as to understand why he was so much faster than us. In some cases a double does not reflect the reality of things."
