Formula 1 | Mercedes, Russell: “We haven't been this fast on Friday for a long time”
“The grip on the banked corners is incredible,” said the Englishman
Fifth position for George Russell at the end of the first day of free practice for the Dutch Grand Prix, taking place on the Zandvoort track, Max Verstappen's home. The Mercedes driver had a good Friday, also considering the fastest time set in the morning, and the feeling is that the W13 behaves quite well on the historic Dutch track, revisited in recent years to adapt to modern times and machines.
F1 | Analysis of free practice in Holland: Ferrari raises its head, Verstappen is still there
“The machine is working better – confirms Russell. Tomorrow we will all be very close, we also see McLaren and Aston Martin up there. We know that qualifying is our weak point and that in the race we go better, and our pace seems quite good, but we need to start from the right position. It was difficult to see the pace of the others given the problems Formula 1 had, so we don't even know how we are compared to them, but we know we are relatively competitive. We haven't been this competitive on Friday in a while, so it's something promising for tomorrow. The DRS in the last corner is quite interesting, and it's incredible the grip you get both there and in turn 3, it's a fantastic feeling."
