Formula 1 | Mercedes, Russell: “I had tire management problems”

George Russell completes Mercedes' excellent day with the podium behind Verstappen and Hamilton. The young Englishman was probably hoping for something more, after leading for several laps until the beautiful overtaking immediately by Leclerc, after which he had some more difficulties in managing the tires but all in all he can be satisfied with his weekend after even the first career pole position.

“I had a great start, and the first stint went well too – Russell said. We stopped early both times and tried to manage the tires at the end, as well as push as much as possible at the same time. Finally, when it started raining I struggled and lost my temperature. It was difficult to manage the tyres, so there is a lot to look at and see where we could have done better. The team did a great job, with yesterday's pole position and today's podium with the two cars: we are making progress and I am proud of everyone's work, and after the break we will try to win some races."
