Formula 1 | Mercedes, Hamilton: "Rules respected today, not like in Abu Dhabi"

Lewis Hamilton finished the Italian Grand Prix in fifth position. The Mercedes driver managed to come back from the bottom, thanks also to one less stop and a race that was perhaps not as overwhelming as that of Sainz, but as effective as that of the Ferrari driver. To questions from Mara Sangiorgio, the Englishman commented on the finale, with the race finishing under the Safety Car.

“I'm not angry about how the race ended – admits Lewis in the mixed zone. I think the rule was respected: obviously I would have liked to fight, but those behind and in front of me had fresh tyres, so I'm not convinced I would have the chance to fight perhaps with Sainz, but I would certainly have tried. This brings back memories, because these are the rules and only once in the history of sport have they not been respected, like today, changing the result of a championship, but that's how it went."
