Mercedes fast at Montmelò, Ferrari close with Charles Leclerc

GP Spain, the report of the second free practice session from the Barcelona circuit
Formula 1 | Mercedes ahead of everyone in FP2 in Barcelona: Hamilton ahead of Bottas

One-two Mercedes in the second free practice session valid for the Spanish Grand Prix, the fourth round of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. After Valtteri Bottas' best performance this morning, the world champion team confirmed its lead also in the FP2 in the afternoon, with Lewis Hamilton gaining two tenths of a second from his teammate (1'18"170 versus 1'18"390). Interesting findings which confirm the great feeling of the W12 on the bends of the Montmelò track. Third place for an excellent Charles Leclerc, who appeared fit and competitive at the wheel of the SF21, followed by Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly.

It should be noted that Alpine, with both drivers, showed an absolutely competitive race pace, a factor that will obviously liven up the fight in the central part of the grid. Yuki Tsunoda's AlphaTauri was seventh, followed by Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen, with the latter making a mistake in his attempt with the reds. Sergio Perez completes the top ten lineup. Outside the top ten were the two McLarens of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, in more difficulty than in the morning probably due to the higher temperatures.

See you tomorrow morning, 12.00 on Sky Sport F1 HD, for the live coverage of the third free practice from the Barcelona circuit. Max Verstappen will be called upon to counter a Mercedes which, at least until today, seems to have returned to the "frightening" levels of last year. Also pay attention to the good fight between Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine and a rediscovered Aston Martin, at least with Sebastian Vettel, for the places immediately behind the podium.
