Formula 1 | Mercedes, Bottas reveals: "I want to stay here, but we will have to discuss the duration of the contract"

In an interview given to the columns of motorsport.com, Valtteri Bottas spoke about his future in Formula One, underlining how the only objective, at least for the moment, is to remain within the Brackley team. The Finn, in fact, does not want to force his hand too much with disturbing external contacts (there was talk of an interest from Ferrari. ed.), but wants to limit himself to doing his job inside the single-seater, collecting points for himself and for the team .

When asked about the contract issue, however, Valtteri underlined how, compared to the past, he prefers to discuss on a multi-year agreement basis, in order to have greater guarantees regarding the future. The Finn, we remember, is enjoying an extremely excellent start to the season, with two near victories in the Chinese and Azerbaijan Grands Prix.

It should be noted that the final puncture in Baku denied him the possibility of presenting himself in Spain as world championship leader.

Here are the words of Valtteri Bottas: “I have always had annual agreements, but for the next contract I would like to aim for something different. I want to stay within this team and I have never considered the idea of establishing relationships with other teams to have greater bargaining power. My idea is to stay here and I will do my utmost to achieve this goal of mine. Toto and I talk a lot, both about my performance and that of the car, but we haven't started any contact regarding the renewal yet."

“We both think it's too early”, added the Finn. “I'm quite calm: I'm riding well and without the accident in Baku I would be close to the lead of the world championship. I have to continue on this path if I want to have any chance of winning the world championship."
