Formula 1 | McLaren, Carlos Sainz will be Fernando Alonso's heir: announcement this week

As expected, Fernando Alonso's farewell to Formula 1 has triggered a domino effect on the driver market. McLaren, orphaned of the two-time world champion since 2019, has no intention of being caught unprepared: the English team has been "blocking" for some time Carlos Sainz, with which, as reported by ESPN, a two-year agreement was found. It will be him, torpedoed by Renault after the arrival of Ricciardo, who will take up the legacy of his Spanish compatriot: the announcement should arrive this week. With Sainz's move to Woking, Pierre Gasly loses its fiercest competitor for the coveted vacant seat in Red Bull: it will most likely be up to him to team up with Max Verstappen next year.

McLaren, however, still has to untie another knot: Sainz's partner. At the moment, the runoff is between Stoffel vandoorne e Lando Norris. The Belgian driver is aiming for reconfirmation, despite a difficult first half of the season, while the 18-year-old Briton, currently in Formula 2, dreams of joining the Circus through the front door. Norris himself, yesterday, on Twitter defined the news of Alonso's farewell to the Circus as "interesting": certainly not a coincidence.
