Zak Brown is ready to shift McLaren's focus towards IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500. In an interview given during the last GP in Long Beach, an event which ManageR attended, the CEO of the Woking team did not rule out a possible commitment of the English in the American series starting from the 2020 season, provided that the shareholders are agreement and there is a very specific development plan.

The next Indianapolis 500, precisely in this sense, will be an extremely important test for Bob Fernley and for all the McLaren Indy staff, given that the engineers, unlike two years ago, will have full responsibility in terms of development and they will not be able to count on the experience of Michael Andretti,

“There is no doubt that shareholders would like involvement in IndyCar as well,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown. “I think it's more than just an idea.”

On the team's commitment to the next Indy 500 he added: “Gil is in China, but as soon as he gets back he will try to focus solely on Indianapolis. In 2017 it was simple Michael could count on a lot of experience and the entire development work fell on his shoulders, while this year it will be a different adventure”.

Finally, conclusion on a possible future commitment: “As I said, McLaren would like to race in IndyCar. We are totally focused on Formula 1, but if we were to shift our attention, I would say the target would be 2020 or 2021."
