Formula 1 | McLaren, the point on Daniel Ricciardo's future
Zak Brown: "There's no rush, we still have another year to spend together"
Daniel Ricciardo's 2022 certainly didn't start in the best way: out of four races played, the Australian from McLaren only picked up points in the good performance in Melbourne, then between retirements and less than exciting performances of his or the car, the driver from Perth he also struggled due to the Covid infection which effectively deprived him of the test session in Bahrain. Now we are also starting to talk about the future, albeit apparently very distant, given that the contract with the Woking team expires at the end of 2023.
“Yes, I think Daniel is much more comfortable than last year – said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren a F1Nation. However, I think he still doesn't feel 100% in symbiosis with the car, but she has an excellent relationship with Lando. It was great for him to return to Australia after two years and recharge his batteries by visiting his family, we are happy to see him in top form. We will probably talk about the contract by the end of the year: there is still 2023 to face together and we want to think long term, so we will do some tests with Pato (O'Ward), Colton (Herta), Ugo is also there ( Ugochukwu) in Formula 4 who managed to score his first pole on his debut. We don't want to plan too soon, there's no rush."
