Formula 1 | Marko and the post-Monza controversies: “Closing under the SC regime was wrong”

Interviewed by Sky Sports at the end of the last Italian Grand Prix, the 16th round of the 2022 Formula 1 world championship, Helmut Marko followed the path taken post-race by Christian Horner, Red Bull team principal, highlighting how the choice of closing the race in Monza under the Safety Car regime not only penalized the spectacle on the track, but also deprived the fans of an exciting and uncertain finale.

“Closing the race under the Safety Car regime was not the right decision,” said the Austrian Red Bull Manager. “I think the safety car positioned itself in front of the wrong driver. The restart would certainly have put us at a disadvantage, but as a team we must always put sport first."

“Obviously as long as there is a tractor on the track you can't race, but this should push the marshalls to work faster. There was enough time to do everything, but in the end the least correct path for the fans was chosen.", concluded Dietrich Mateschitz's right-hand man.
