Formula 1 | Mansell: “Alonso's career stalled through no fault of his own”
The former driver and world champion defends the 36-year-old Asturian and focuses on the McLaren-Renault combination: "I hope it can allow him to fight for the top again"
2006, 2013, 2014: these are the years dating back, respectively, to the last world title, the last victory and the last podium obtained by Fernando Alonso in Formula 1. A fast, that of the Spaniard, which makes noise, especially if we consider the caliber of the driver, still labeled as one of the best on the grid; yet, also due to the disastrous three-year period McLaren-Honda, reality says this. The former Formula 1 driver and world champion Nigel Mansell, interviewed by the magazine F1 Racing, blamed the decline of the 36-year-old Asturian on the teams he competed for: “Alonso is hugely talented and a fantastic world champion. His career stalled due to no fault of his own" - he has declared.
Mansell's desire, in view of 2018, is to see Alonso back in the top positions, driven by the unprecedented combination McLaren-Renault: “I think Fernando can win many more championships. He is an incredible driver and I hope that McLaren, with the Renault engine, can offer him positive things and allow him to fight for the top again" – concluded the Briton.
