Formula 1 | Liberty Media is thinking of a second competition in China to increase commitments in Asia
An appointment in another Chinese metropolis is considered
Sensational indiscretion coming from the Suzuka paddock: Liberty Media is thinking of a second race in China to increase commitments in Asia. Malaysia's farewell, in fact, leaves an important void within the calendar and despite the words of a Sepang representative (our goodbye may not be final.ed), Chase Carey would be evaluating alternatives as early as 2019.
On the table of the American company there would in fact be the proposal of a second Grand Prix in China, precisely in Beijing: the idea would be to create a city track, perhaps to be raced in night conditions, so as to increase the commitment of the teams in Asia .
The Manager himself confirmed this, underlining how Liberty Media's objective is to extend the current calendar to twenty-five races. A possible Grand Prix in Vietnam is also being considered.
“Malaysia has certainly left a void and we are evaluating new appointments in Asia”, said Sean Bratches on Liberty Media's future plans. “We have some ideas and several proposals have reached us in recent weeks. I think we will make a decision when we have a clear idea of what to do."
On the rest of the calendar he added: “There are currently twenty-one GPs scheduled for 2018, but as you well know our goal is to bring this number to twenty-five. There is no shortage of space for new appointments."
