Formula 1 | The FIA confirms the static tests on the chassis for the adoption of the Halo system
Listen to the requests of small teams
After the many complaints made by the teams in recent weeks, the International Automobile Federation has confirmed the static tests on the chassis that each team will have to carry out to homologate the 2018 bodies. Until today, in fact, the FIA had not disclosed any information on the tests to be carried out for the approval of the new chassis, especially after the adoption of the Halo system.
Thanks to the safety system in question, in fact, the forces on the body will discharge differently, which is why specific information was needed to begin the development of the chassis. Precisely in this sense, Charlie Whiting has authorized the use of a dummy structure instead of the Halo (obviously with similar layout and weight characteristics. ed.) and during each test, the peak load must be applied within three minutes and it must last for at least five minutes. After this period of time there should be no sagging of any kind on the body.
Each static and dynamic load test must also be performed with the secondary roll structure removed. From this moment on, the teams will be able to conclude their studies regarding the 2018 chassis.
