Formula 1 | Kuwait ready to enter the Circus: construction of the Kuwait Motor Town is almost complete
The facility has some similarities with Istanbul Park
The construction of a new sports facility in the Kuwait region is proceeding quickly. After the entry of the kingdom of Abu Dhabi into Formula One and the construction of the enormous Dubai facility, a track used by the GT categories, the small state close to Iraq and Iran would like to have its say on motorsport, putting together a track that could host Formula One in the future.
For a few months, in fact, we have been working incessantly to get the Kuwait Motor Town "in motion", a sports facility that is being built about 30 kilometers from the capital Kuwait City. The track, designed by the usual Herman Tilke, is over 5000 meters in length and features two large straights alternating with a fast sector. The strong point of the circuit is a very long mixed curve similar to that of Istanbul Park.
At the moment there are no negotiations with Liberty Media for the arrival of the Circus in Kuwait, but the organizers themselves did not want to deny a possible entry into the world calendar, underlining that the situation is "work in progress". It should be noted that the circuit has the "FIA Level 1" rating, therefore it is used for the organization of large events such as the WEC and, indeed, Formula One. Construction should be completed in 2019, but the organizers are aiming for the definitive approval from the Federation as early as 2018. The objective will be to gain experience with some "lower" categories, perhaps following the path taken by Dubai with the GTs, only to then launch an attack decisive to Formula One by 2020/2021.
