Formula 1 | Haas, Magnussen: “In Singapore you can never relax”

Two fastest race laps for the Dane in 2018 and 2019: "But I'm not proud of it"

Formula 1 | Haas, Magnussen: “In Singapore you can never relax”

The Singapore Grand Prix marks the return of Formula 1 to Asia after the pandemic. There hasn't been a race at Marina Bay since 2019, when Sebastian Vettel won ahead of Charles Leclerc for a beautiful Ferrari one-two. Kevin Magnussen was also in that race, on a not exactly competitive Haas, but the Dane managed to set the fastest lap at the end with a new tire and for the second year in a row. Nothing exceptional, but it shows how the US team rider feels at ease on such a physical track.

“I love Singapore – Magnussen said. It's a very physical race, in which I achieved the fastest lap twice, one in 2018 and the other in 2019, with new tires at the end of the race, but having not scored any points I don't think I should be proud of it, so I hope to succeed this year. It is one of the toughest races of the season, both due to the weather conditions and the layout of the circuit, with many corners one after the other. There's no real straight here, you can never relax."

“There's no specific way to prepare for this weekend, not for me at least: I train a lot and Singapore gives you a lot of motivation to go to the gym. You often try to stay with European time, it can be difficult because you have to stay up late at night, but not having to adjust to Asian time can be easier. Then we will go straight to Japan and start adapting next Monday."
