According to what the newspaper Sport Bild reports, Liberty Media is thinking of introducing a budget cap for the 2018 season. A move with the aim of leveling the performances in the game, trying to shorten the gap between the top teams (Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari ) and small teams that struggle to complete a season with continuous and effective developments. The limit would be set at 150 million.
Here are the words of Gene Haas on a possible introduction of the budget cap: “It would be a really nice sum for us. The problem certainly won't be the small teams, but the top teams that bill three times our salary. The new owners are aiming hard for it, but there are major obstacles to overcome. Some things cannot be changed overnight."
