Formula 1 | Dutch GP, Berger perplexed about the choice of Zandvoort: "Assen would have been the most logical choice"

Interviewed by the newspaper De Telegraaf, Gerhard Berger spoke about the promotion of Zandvoort as the venue for the next Dutch Grand Prix, underlining how the Assen structure was much better equipped for an event of this type.

In fact, during the last Dutch round of the DTM championship, the Austrian viewed and appreciated all the structures on the track that hosts the Oranje round of the MotoGP world championship, underlining how the location was perfect for Formula 1.

A ready and operational venue that could have hosted the Grand Prix without major changes to the track and external infrastructure. Berger, precisely in this sense, cannot explain the choice to turn to Zandvoort, given that the latter will need a profound renovation before being able to host the Grand Prix in 2020.

“I was deeply impressed by the circuit,” said Gerhard Berger to the Dutch press. “I don't understand why Formula 1 didn't come to Assen. It's one of the best circuits I've ever seen. The grandstand can accommodate many spectators and the paddock is large enough for the needs of the Circus. The infrastructure is top notch with the airport and hotels nearby. Everything was there to host the race."
