Interviewed at the end of the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the fourth round of this 2019 Formula 1 world championship, Gil de Ferran commented with satisfaction on the result obtained by Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris in Baku, underlining how the seventh and eighth places achieved safe by the team's riders is the result of the enormous work carried out in recent months.

“Bringing both cars into the points is equivalent to a good day at the office,” said Gil de Ferran. “From the outside it might have looked like a simple race, but in reality it was anything but. Our car could count on a good pace, but nevertheless we had to manage tire wear in the race."

On the strategy adopted in the race he added: “We have chosen to follow a conservative and aggressive path at the same time. In doing so, the team covered every strategic situation that could arise during the race."

“I want to congratulate Lando and Carlos, as they both drove impeccably,” he concluded. “I also don't want to forget our head of strategy, the racing team and the entire McLaren team, who put in all their efforts. We leave Baku satisfied and determined to continue at this pace."
