Formula 1 | Ferrari, Binotto: “It will be a difficult start to the season for us, but we are developing the car”

A few days after the resumption of the 2020 World Cup in Austria following a long forced break due to COVID-19, Mattia Binotto gave himself an interview to the television broadcaster Sky, analyzing the points that will have greater prominence in these first events of the calendar.

In the Barcelona winter tests completed between the end of February and the beginning of March, the SF1000 certainly didn't shine, showing a few more weaknesses than its rivals Mercedes and Red Bull. Both the drivers and the team principal made no secret of the problems encountered: “It will definitely be different from usual, it will be very intense. We will be focused on ourselves. It will be a difficult start to the season for us given the Barcelona tests, but we are developing the car, we are focused on doing well,” Binotto told Sky.

The situation linked to the virus certainly did not help in the development of the single-seater. After the difficulties encountered in the winter tests, the first events of the season would have been fundamental to better understand how the single-seater works and, consequently, plan an adequate development plan. This, unfortunately, did not occur and thus further delay was added to what had already accumulated after the tests. During the break the Maranello team worked hard to understand what didn't work well during the winter tests and this, according to the team principal, also slowed down the development work, so much so that Ferrari should not present itself at the first round of the season with particular news: “Impossible, we will show up with the same car as Australia. There was no time to develop, we remained stuck in the regulations. Everyone may have thought about it, but then the developments need to go to the bench and into the wind tunnel. We are developing the machine. Austria's will be identical to Australia's. I would also be surprised if some teams had any developments, because we have all been at a standstill", added Mattia Binotto.
