Formula 1 | Ferrari, Binotto doesn't give up: "I see the possibility of catching Mercedes"

26.05.2019 - Race, Sebastian Vettel (GER) Scuderia Ferrari SF90, Mattia Binotto (ITA) Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal and Charles Leclerc (MON) Scuderia Ferrari SF90

Interviewed by the newspaper Die Welt, Mattia Binotto returned to Ferrari's chances of a comeback, underlining how the Red team needs to optimize the performance of the SF90, especially after the aerodynamic updates presented in Barcelona.

Despite the gap opened by Mercedes in these first months of the year, in fact, the Team Principal believes that the Scuderia has all it takes to compete on equal terms, an aspect that should push the entire team to improve.

“We need to optimize our performance, on and off the track,” declared Mattia Binotto after the last weekend in Monaco. “We don't want to make fun of anyone, the situation is not simple. Fundamentally, though, I see the possibility of catching Mercedes and I think we are not even far from the goal. The gap between victory and defeat is absolutely not that big."

  • Since February I have been with the same car, with the same front suspension, with the same front wing, with the same problems every race, and with the same statements from Binotto who just doesn't admit that the car with the outwash is wrong.

  • "Hook" the Mercedes? Yes, very simple, with a tow hook......and being pulled. But you will always get behind him....... Alas......

  • After the latest performances this is certainly a hope, a beautiful dream, unfortunately far from reality.
