Formula 1 | F1 2020, the idea of a Q4 on Saturday rejected

Despite rumors circulating in recent weeks, Liberty Media and the FIA will not introduce a fourth qualifying session starting from the 2021 season.

According to what was reported by the DPA press agency, in fact, the teams would not have accepted the draft put forward by the Federation, highlighting how a further qualifying round would make everything more complicated and would force Pirelli to modify the number of tires to be assigned to each team for the race weekend.

The proposal, we remember, was put forward by the FIA in recent weeks with the aim of increasing the show on Saturday, introducing a new cut that would have made qualifying even more exciting. The Team Principals, however, never welcomed the proposal with enthusiasm, highlighting how the current format of three heats reflects the standards and allows everyone, teams and drivers, to agree.

Therefore the proposal was definitively rejected, with the only changes for 2021 which will concern the division of the budget, an aspect strongly evaluated by Liberty Media to level the values at stake, and the technical regulation.
