Formula 1 | Negotiations between Sauber and Honda continue for 2018

Hectic days for the Sauber team: despite the factory work program planned for the creation of the new C36, the car with which Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson will tackle the next Formula 1 world championship, Monisha Kaltenborn and the management of the Swiss team are busy with some discussions with Honda regarding the supply of power units starting from the 2018 season.

The arrival of the Haas team in Formula One has significantly lowered Ferrari's attention towards Sauber, especially with regards to driver management, thus forcing the current Team Principal to look at alternatives for the future.

Precisely in this sense, Honda's strong interest in Peter Sauber's structure should be noted, with the latter potentially helping McLaren in the development of a power unit that has suffered significant problems over the last few seasons.

The negotiations, according to what was reported by some Swiss media, have been going on for several weeks and in the last few days there has been a clear acceleration, both from a technical and economic point of view, given that Honda would contribute to the development of the C36 and would provide the own units completely free of charge.

The only obstacle to the negotiation would be the economic situation of the Swiss team, given that, despite some new investors arriving last autumn, the future still appears full of doubts.

There will certainly be some news in the coming months, presumably before the start of the European season, but Sauber's farewell to Ferrari now seems more and more certain.
