Formula 1 | Brown cautious about 2020: “McLaren is a fairly young team”

Despite the excellent end to the season and the results achieved by Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris aboard the MCL34, Zak Brown preferred to keep his feet firmly planted on the ground in view of 2020, underlining how McLaren's objective will be to continue the process of growth started during the past season.

According to what was declared by the American manager to the columns of the newspaper Marca, in fact, the Woking team does not expect growth similar to that seen between 2018 and 2019, given that the stability offered by the regulations will not allow the mid-table teams to gain ground compared to Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull.

A stalemate which will have to lead McLaren to confirm not only the good performances shown with the MCL34, but also fourth place in the constructors' championship.

“I don't think we will be able to take a step forward similar to that of last winter,” Zak Brown said. “The technical regulations will be quite similar and therefore I believe that the grid will not be very different from the one admired in Abu Dhabi. There may be some surprises here and there, but I don't think the situation will be revolutionized."

On McLaren he added: “The car we created for the next championship gives us excellent sensations, but we must always consider that we are a young team. We will have good weekends and less positive days, but the hope is to continue on the growth path started during the last championship."
