Formula 1 | Bottas on strategy in Turkey: "Never thought about finishing the race without stopping"

In a chat given to the press at the end of the Turkish Grand Prix, the 16th round of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship, Valtteri Bottas spoke about the strategy implemented by the team at Istanbul Park, specifying that his plan did not include the option of arrive at the end of the race without making at least one pit stop.

According to what the Finnish driver declared, his tires began to show strong vibrations after about half the race, an aspect that led the technicians to push for a "safety" stop. A good choice that allowed him to climb to the top step of the podium ahead of the two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

“I never thought of finishing the race without making at least one pit stop,” said the Mercedes Finn. “At a certain point I started to feel strong vibrations from the tires and I risked suffering some kind of problem if I continued to the end. Before the break they had become almost slick, I would certainly have found myself on canvas. I always had in mind that at some point we would stop, but I didn't know what the team thought about it. I'm happy that it ended up this way."
