Formula 1 | Berger reveals: “Tanabe fundamental in Honda's rebirth”
“They have done a great job and the initial indications are positive,” he added
Gerhard Berger thinks Honda is on track to improve in Formula 1. The collaboration with McLaren in the three-year period 2015-2017 was so serious that the British team chose to team up with Renault, leaving the Japanese manufacturer in a remarkably difficult situation. The arrival of Toro Rosso, however, allowed Honda a second opportunity and the latest tests held in Barcelona seem to have finally given the reliability sought in the last three years. According to the Austrian, Toyoharu Tanabe managed to give the Japanese technical staff the right guarantees on a technical level, helping the engineer to improve his package.
Here are the words of Gerhard Berger to Servus TV: “I smiled when I saw my old engineer Tanabe, who worked on my car for three years, as Honda's new technical director. He's really good and so I can imagine that with Toro Rosso, Franz Tost and the power of Red Bull behind him they can do well. The company has a great sporting culture and the first responses have been positive."
