Formula 1 | Aston Martin is already thinking about 2026: Honda engine and homemade gearbox

THEAston Martin is in full battle for fourth place in the constructors' championship. However, the Silverstone team is already projecting itself towards 2026, when it will have the supply of the engines Sling, and this means that the design of the car can be more "exclusive" than what we are seeing now, given that the supply from Mercedes significantly influences the way the single-seater is built from the bonnet area to the rear.

“Since the introduction of the hybrid in 2014 only factory teams have won world championships – said Luca Furbatto, technical director of Aston Martin. We are very happy with Mercedes, although in terms of the construction of the cars we are a little influenced by the size of the power unit, the gearbox and the rear, so we have to adapt the design of our car to what they provide us. By 2026, with the arrival of Honda and our change, we will have control of our destiny, it is the right way to take the next step towards victory. We started the first face-to-face meetings with the Japanese immediately after the announcement and regularly update each other. It's still early for them, but the 2026 engine is developing rapidly, we exchange ideas and the response is positive."

“There are still three seasons to go, we want to do well in 2024 and 2025 and in the remaining races of this championship so as to improve our position in the championship. I believe that 2026 will be very exciting, but it would be a mistake to leave out the other years. these objectives are not mutually exclusive: we need to improve as an organization in many different areas and the learning we will have over the next two seasons will be vitally important to be ready in 2026”.
