Formula 1 | Analysis of free practice in the Netherlands: Ferrari seems to be on another track
What a struggle for Leclerc and Sainz on Friday in Zandvoort
The day of free practice in Zandvoort has ended. Lando Norris closed the second session of Dutch Grand Prix ahead of everyone, trailing by just 23 thousandths Max Verstappen. La McLaren once again confirms its competitiveness, but was unable to complete the entire work program due to the accident which occurred at the start of PL2 in Oscar Piastri which crashed into the barriers in turn 3, followed a short distance away by Ricciardo, with the Australian forced to undergo in-depth tests in hospital, there is a fear of breaking his left wrist. Returning to the analysis of what we saw today in Zandvoort, we immediately notice one Ferrari far behind both in race pace but above all in flying lap, also considering teams like Alpine e Williams absent from our usual table, perennially faster than the two SF-23 di Leclerc e Sainz.
The feeling we all had was that the two Red riders ran on a completely opposite configuration compared to the layout of the Dutch track. Something to prepare for Monza? We honestly feel like ruling it out, it wouldn't make much sense to work towards another race and sacrifice an entire day of testing a priori. Eleventh and sixteenth position for the two standard bearers from the Scuderia di Maranello, and although the gaps are still small, it must be remembered that we are running on a very, very short track. The car struggles to turn corners, it will probably need to be overturned tomorrow before appearing in qualifying.
As for the rest, McLaren did well, as already written, especially on the flying lap, while we always say the same things about Red Bull, in particular with regards to Max Verstappen, who was uncatchable in terms of race pace. Some important flashes from Mercedes, which also reached 1:15 with the yellow tire as did the Dutch champion, while Aston Martin seems to be in close contact with Ferrari, but we will have to see in what latitudes considering the ranking .
