Formula 1 | Alpine, Alonso and Ocon retired from the Singapore GP

Two technical problems prevent the French team from reaching the points zone at Marina Bay

Formula 1 | Alpine, Alonso and Ocon retired from the Singapore GP

Double retirement for Alpine in the last Singapore GP, 17th round of the 2022 Formula 1 world championship. Due to two different technical problems with the power unit, Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon were unable to see the checkered flag at Marina Bay , concluding in the worst possible way a weekend full of ups and downs. The Spaniard, who started from fifth place, ended up KO after a good duel with Max Verstappen, while the Frenchman, who started from the back, was forced to retire while trying to get back into the top ten.

“It was a frustrating day for the team,” said the Frenchman. “An engine ended my race and I know the team is investigating to understand the exact cause of the failure. Obviously it is very disappointing to leave Singapore with a double retirement on our shoulders, but looking at the glass full we can be satisfied with the behavior of the car throughout the weekend. We will race again in a few days at Suzuka, one of my favorite tracks on the calendar. I know we will return to the track even stronger."

Here are Fernando Alonso's impressions: “It was a shame to retire so early in the race, also because we lost important points. In the same way, however, we can look at the positive aspects of this weekend. We can be proud of our weekend, given that in the race, until the retirement, they were fighting without problems for the top five positions. We will already race this weekend at Suzuka and with the team we will try to immediately divert attention to this new event. We want to get back into the points."
