Emerson Fittipaldi has no doubts: Fernando Alonso will be able to compete for the top step of the podium in the Monaco Grand Prix, the seventh round of the 2023 Formula 1 world championship. Interviewed by the Spanish newspaper AS, the Brazilian analyzed the balances that have emerged in this first part of the season, specifying how the Spaniard - thanks also to the splendid work carried out by Aston Martin on the new AMR23 - managed to emerge in the comparison with Ferrari and Mercedes, obtaining absolutely respectable results (three podiums in three races). A positive situation which, combined with a pinch of luck, could lead him to compete for victory in the most glamorous weekend of the entire championship.

"Aston Martin he is undoubtedly the surprise of the championship and Fernando is the ideal driver to extract the maximum from the AMR23", stated the former Brazilian driver. “I honestly don't think this form will be limited to just the first half of the season. Alonso is a very competitive driver and I am sure that together with the team they will be able to confirm themselves at this level also in the remainder of the world championship."

Fittipaldi subsequently focused on the physical state of the Iberian: “I won my last race in the United States at 47 years old and I believe that Fernando can also reach that level. He is physically well and is hungry for results. He wants to win. I would add that in my opinion he is one of the main favorites to win the Monaco Grand Prix."

“Mechanics a Monte Carlo it is important and it is an aspect on which Aston Martin can emerge in comparison with Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes,” he continued. "The comparison with two tough guys like Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez won't be easy and a lot will depend on qualifying, but it's obvious that Fernando will have opportunities that he'll try to make the best of, even with a bit of luck."
