Formula 1 | Alonso: “The last two laps in Baku were heart pounding”

Interviewed by the international media at the end of the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the seventh round of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship, Fernando Alonso commented on the splendid result obtained by Alpine in Baku, highlighting how sixth place under the checkered flag is the fair reward for the great work done by the team in recent weeks.

According to the Spaniard, Alpine is doing its utmost to give its drivers a competitive car and the Azerbaijani placing certainly gives a significant boost to morale. As for the last two laps, however, the Spaniard defined them “Exciting and heart-pounding”, specifying how the battles on the tracks gave fans an absolute spectacle.

“We experienced two laps with our hearts in our throats, between exciting battles, aggression and drivers trying to get the maximum result without thinking about the tyres”, said the Spaniard. “It was a spectacle! Fortunately, we managed to end the weekend with many good points. An important result for a team that is working hard and deserves satisfactions of this kind."
