Formula 1 | Alfa Romeo close to agreement with Sauber for return to the Circus

While waiting to find out how this exciting Formula One season will end, behind the scenes we continue to work to fix those few things that are still not in place in anticipation of the next championship. Among these is the line-up and some sponsorships linked to the Sauber team, with three drivers in the running for two seats. If for Charles Leclerc the agreement seems almost done, Antonio Giovinazzi and Marcus Ericsson would be playing the role of second driver within the Hinwill Scuderia, with the latter slightly ahead due to a strong sponsor who has been actively collaborating for some years with Sauber.

Despite the doubts about Antonio Giovinazzi, however, the Swiss Scuderia could bring "branded" Ferrari engines to the track under the Alfa Romeo name. According to what was reported by motorsport.com, in fact, Sergio Marchionne is considering a sponsorship agreement with Frederic Vasseur, supplying Sauber with engines that would bring with them the well-known Biscione brand. The agreement would be quite close between the parties involved and would follow along the lines of the sponsorship project started by Red Bull with Tag Heuer, except that here there would not be a sponsor at stake, but a brand that FCA has been trying to relaunch for years .

The agreement in question would guarantee Charles Leclerc a seat for next year, transforming Sauber into a small Toro Rosso-style "junior team" of the Reds. A project of this type, if it were to come to fruition, would guarantee the Alfa brand an enormous image return and would allow Ferrari to raise its young people in a safe place. Furthermore, Sauber will be able to enjoy a preferential agreement with Rossa, receiving strong help regarding the technology to be applied on the new single-seaters.
