FIA, Gracia: “A Ferrari appeal would be absurd”

Carlos Gracia, vice president of the FIA, spoke on the case of the yellow flags discovered by the Spanish press which involved Sebastian Vettel and which could have called into question the title won by the German to the advantage of Fernando Alonso.

At Interlagos, on the fourth lap of the last race of the world championship, Vettel overtook a Toro Rosso under yellow flags. The fact, if discovered and sanctioned by the FIA, would result in a 20-second penalty for the German, enough to relegate him to eighth position, thus giving the title to Alonso.

But according to Gracia "any measure once the championship is over is absurd". “Ferrari shouldn't win a world championship in this way, it would be like re-refereeing a football match,” Gracia explained to ZoomNews.

Ferrari has until November 30 to lodge a complaint but at the moment the Maranello team does not seem willing to act.

Furthermore, another video was published online that would exonerate Vettel. The video, in slow motion and without the rev counter of the other video, shows a green flag waved by a commissioner on the left, although the yellow flag warning light is still present on the dashboard of the Red Bull, probably linked to a transponder acting in that section connected to the illuminated signs on the edge of the track, which were also yellow at that moment. The flags displayed by the commissioners, however, have priority over the other light signals and therefore Vettel's overtaking would be legal.
