FIA aware of Volkswagen's interest in F1 since 2015

Volkswagen has a new plan to enter Formula 1 according to German weekly Sport Bild. Peter Sauber recently confirmed that he met Volkswagen president Martin Winterkorn at the Geneva Motor Show but Sauber CEO Monisha Kalternborn denied further developments between the Swiss team and the German giant.

But according to Sport Bild, Volkswagen intends to enter F1 with Sauber which, after the collaboration between 2006 and 2009 with BMW and that with Mercedes in its first years in F1, would find itself as a partner with another large German manufacturer .

The article states that the FIA has been informed of the plan which would see the Wolfsburg company intending to increase its visibility in key markets such as China, USA, Russia and Brazil.

The collaboration with Sauber, however, would only be the beginning of Volkswagen's adventure in F1 which also intends to design a chassis at the Porsche Motorsport Center in Weissach, Germany.
