Ferrari: Lots of kilometers for Alonso and Massa in Interlagos free practice

The last Friday of the 2011 season took place according to the same plan that Scuderia Ferrari is following in this last part of the season: the first session dedicated mainly to the development of new solutions for next year, the second aimed mainly at preparing the single-seaters for qualifying and the race. The only variation compared to many Fridays was the possibility of evaluating two additional sets of tires made available by Pirelli in view of 2012.

Many kilometers covered by the two Ferrari drivers, with the host Felipe Massa completing two laps more than the distance of a Grand Prix on this circuit (71) while his teammate stopped ten laps away from the theoretical checkered flag.

Pat Fry: “Even today we had a lot of work to do, especially with a view to next year. Although the day didn't go like clockwork – we had to interrupt Fernando's last set of laps this morning due to an engine problem – we managed to complete the planned programme: now the data analysis work collected will fall above all to our colleagues who, in Maranello, are working hard on the project for the new car. In the afternoon, we mainly focused on finding the best balance of the car and evaluating the performance of the tires over short and long distances. I would say that there is still a lot to work on in this sense because neither driver is yet satisfied with the behavior of his car but we still have many hours to study how to improve the situation before qualifying tomorrow afternoon. The remainder of the weekend is also affected by the uncertainty linked to the weather conditions: at the moment the probability of having rain as the protagonist on Sunday is very significant but we know how easily the forecasts here can be proven wrong.”
