Ferrari, wasted opportunity in Canada

Ferrari only had eight points at the end of the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, thanks to Felipe Massa's sixth place. Fernando Alonso was forced to retire on lap 36 after a collision with the eventual race winner, Button: the Spaniard thus saw the end of a series of points races that had lasted since last year's Belgian Grand Prix. After seven races, Fernando and Felipe occupy fifth and sixth place respectively in the Drivers' classification while the Scuderia maintains third position in the Constructors' classification.

“There is a lot of regret in us at the end of this chaotic Canadian Grand Prix. Today we had the potential to fight for the victory but everything that could go wrong took this direction" commented Stefano Domenicali. In the end, Felipe's sixth place is certainly a hard result to swallow when you think about how the race ended. Two episodes in particular - Fernando's contact with Button and Karthikeyan's lapping which caused Felipe to go off the track - leave a very bitter taste in the mouth. Now we have to erase this Sunday from our heads but not the fact that the level of our performance was up to the task, as we saw two weeks ago in Monaco. We need to repeat ourselves starting from Valencia and then improve ourselves in view of those races, I'm thinking first and foremost of Silverstone, where aerodynamic efficiency will count more and perhaps the new interpretation of the exhaust regulations could change the balance of power on the field."

“It was a chaotic race to say the least, in which we didn't get as much as we could” added Pat Fry. “The events were certainly not favorable to us, starting with the weather conditions: today, also considering what we saw in qualifying, we could have fought for the victory even in the dry. In the first part of the race they felt the car differently: for Fernando the intermediates were faster and hence the decision to have him come back to fit them. Then it started raining heavily and the red flag came. It was a lottery and our numbers didn't come out, this is an indisputable fact. Now we must look ahead and put an end to this match as soon as possible, without allowing ourselves to be discouraged. The team worked well despite very difficult conditions. As far as performance this weekend is concerned, the distance from the best seems to have narrowed. Unfortunately, we did not see the fruits of this in the finishing order of the race. We must look ahead and try to continue on this path, improving the car: sooner or later the results will arrive"
