Ferrari names Ganassi and Penske as ideal partners for the third car

Luca di Montezemolo cited two famous names in American motor racing as ideal partners for racing a third Ferrari in Formula 1.

The president of the Maranello team has always been critical of smaller manufacturers, constantly fighting to survive, stating this week that it is "better to have a third Ferrari with a competitive team, than a team that wouldn't even be able to race in GP2”.
“I believe it is everyone's will and that Ecclestone himself agrees. Who would race the third Ferrari? A small but competitive team,” he told the Italian press.
Autosprint then revealed more details on Montezemolo's idea, revealing that Ferrari wants to bring the third car to the track in 2013.
Team boss Stefano Domenicali is flying to London to meet the other members of FOTA.
“The teams and the FIA are discussing the possibility of fielding the third car in three years,” the article continues.
Montezemolo confirmed: “It would be nice to see a third Ferrari managed perhaps by a private American team. I'm thinking Ganassi or Penske. We are determined on this issue."
“If a team doesn't have the money to stay in Formula 1, it can go to GP2,” reports the Italian press, quoting the president's words.
“It's disheartening to see someone like Trulli so far behind the leaders. Think of what Jarno could do if his team ran a Ferrari."
Jarno Trulli races for Tony Fernandes' Lotus team, which finished tenth in 2010, making it the best rookie team.
Previously some teams, especially Williams, were against the plan for a third car.
Montezemolo concluded with a rhetorical question: “Ecclestone agrees and even Frank Williams, who was previously against it, is now with us. Don't you think it would be nice to see a team like Penske or Ganassi put a Ferrari driven by an American driver on the track?”.
